Designing and producing a tapestry or rug is a hands-on collaboration every step of the way.

The process begins with establishing a design for which there are several different approaches:
  • select a design without changes in  size, pattern, and colorway OR
  • select a design and customize it to optimize your functional and aesthetic goals OR
  • create an entirely new design from your own inspirations.

Once the tapestry or rug design is finalized, the approved Design Plate is sent to our Nepalese partners who begin bringing your special piece to life.
With occasional photos throughout the many different stages of production, we’ll keep you abreast of its exciting journey along the way.

Our custom tapestries & rugs are:

  • one-of-a-kind and made-to-order
  • exquisitely handcrafted by our Nepalese artisans and weavers
  • hand-knotted in a density of 100 knots per square inch or more
  • made with 100% Tibetan Wool or Chinese Silk or combinations of both
  • rich in lanolin: the sheep who roam the Himalayan Highlands live in high altitudes and harsh environments, so their wool has inherent properties which provide a natural protective barrier
  • crafted with hand-carded and hand-spun yarns: preparing by hand vs. by machine further enhances the rich texture, luster, tensile strength, and durability as well as the overall handmade appeal
  • a collaboration which can take 12-16 weeks to produce

Some projects are best served with additional interior design services in order to design and produce the perfect tapestry or rug for you. With over 40 years practicing her design business, Joanne can work with you either directly or in collaboration with other interior designers and architects. Some additional services may include:
  • room space planning or art wall compositions to determine the best tapestry or rug size
  • design expertise and guidance with your interior design decisions impacted by your new hand-knotted artwork
  • 3D graphic illustrations and colored photo-realistic renderings so you can visualize optional tapestry or rug designs in your room before making a final selection.

We can complete the picture when you wall mount your tapestry or rug on a custom decorative headrail and/or frame. Designed as an integral part of the artwork, these pieces are fabricated in the local workshop and are made primarily of both native and exotic woods and can be adorned with glass, fabric, metal, mirror, stone, contrasting woods, and more.
